Riley G. Epps
Riley Epps, President of State Tax Advisors, has 20 years experience in State and Local Taxes including sales and use, motor
fuels and excise, and income/franchise taxes. His extensive multi-state experience includes compliance review, taxability research, nexus determination,
audit defense and support, voluntary disclosure negotiation and managed audits.
Riley Epps holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Accounting and an additional Bachelors Degree in Marketing, both
from the University of Houston. Using this uncommon blend of technical skill and marketing acumen, mixed with his entrepreneurial spirit, Riley has
enjoyed success with a Big Five Firm and as a small business owner.
Riley was employed by Deloitte and Touche, L.L.P. for six years and was instrumental in building the state and local tax practice.
He left to establish R.G. Epps & Co., and built a thriving state and local tax firm. Next he successfully merged his company with a national property
tax firm. The result was a full-service state and local tax consulting and software company. Having accepted a buyout offer from the national property
tax firm and its investors, Riley formed State Tax Advisors in 2002.
State Tax Advisors is a full-service state and local tax consulting firm that provides strategic knowledge and experience in sales and
use tax consulting, including audit representation and defense, and compliance outsourcing, including return preparation, nexus studies, voluntary disclosure
agreements and registration services.
Riley is a native Houstonian who lives with his wife, Lisa and their two children, Caroline and Hunter, in Kingwood, Texas. At one time
a professional ball player with the Texas Rangers, these days Riley is more likely to be found on the golf course.
