Dan Makuch is an accomplished financial professional with 30 years of experience in diverse businesses. He began his career in Big 4 public accounting and went on to positions in the manufacturing, distribution, service, pharmaceutical and printing industries. His skills in financial management, corporate tax compliance, risk management, treasury, human resources, employee benefits and business development offer immediate impact to startups, acquisitions/integrations and existing businesses. He enjoys helping organizations understand their financial statements, develop appropriate metrics and track key performance indicators essential to sustainable success. While highly skilled in the technical aspects of financial management, Dan has proven ability to communicate the drivers of financial growth and profitability to non-financial executives in a meaningful and actionable manner.
Throughout his career, Dan has delivered increased profitability by developing innovative pricing and cost models, applying his financial reporting, budgeting and strategic planning capabilities in both domestic and international settings. He has the proven ability to maximize cash flow through proper inventory control, accounts receivable management and cost awareness.
As a hands-on CFO, Dan not only recognizes issues and evaluates and recommends solutions to difficult challenges, he also executes approved plans in a thorough, cost-effective and enduring manner. He has succeeded in small, medium and large businesses and has overcome challenges in many facets of business operations. As CFO and controller of an international steel manufacturer, he managed group sales growth from $34 million to over $500 million by leading acquisitions in Canada and start-up companies in Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Chile.
He enjoys working with startup companies in developing and implementing the best legal structure, debt/equity strategy, treasury/cash management policy, and the most effective budgeting, human resource, tax, and risk management plans.
Over several years of work in commercial printing and pharmaceutical manufacturing, Dan's expertise in cost analysis presented him with the opportunity to team up with the information technology and operations departments where he was a driving force in the development of job costing software that interfaced with estimating, order entry, invoicing, inventory control, and general ledger activities in a seamless manner.
Dan enjoyed five years in Big 4 Public Accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers serving small to medium size manufacturing, broadcasting, professional services, higher education, non-profit and government entities. His fluency in French has served him and his clients well throughout his career.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Law from Clarkson University where he captained the ice hockey team in his senior year, he played in the New York Rangers organization. Following his hockey career, Dan obtained acceptance to the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Dan is an active participant in his Church Appalachia Work Camp group and a board member of the Joshua Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting projects in Haiti and the inner city.
