Small Businesses Need Management Systems - Sep 16, 2008

Posted by: dlandwehr in Articles

As small businesses grow many business owners decide to hire people to support the growth of the organization.  They often assume that the addition of competent, highly motivated people will provide an opportunity to increased profits.  What they often find is that profits decrease, problems increase and management issues consume the time that should be spent growing the business.

Often small growing businesses lack the management systems necessary to coordinate and focus the organization on the goals and strategies of the owner.  While good employees may be important for success, the employee's efforts are often inefficient and ineffective without the proper systems.

Good management systems provide a number of benefits to the business and its owner(s).  Following are some of the benefits.

  • Coordinates efforts of individuals to assure an effective and efficient organization,
  • Identifies expectations, processes and desired results,
  • Provides timely information for decision making,
  • Gives the owner more time for finding activities,
  • Prevents employee fraud and theft,
  • Increases profitability and cash,
  • Helps the owner stay calm.

Without management systems, McDonald's would still be just a small hamburger stand in San Bernardino, California.
