Pittsburgh, PA CFO

Rick is a business professional with over 30 years of experience helping organizations, including start-up, not-for-profit and turnaround situations, succeed. After a 13 year career of providing audit and consulting services to clients at Price Waterhouse, Rick became the founding CFO of Universal Stainless and Alloy Products, Inc. Universal Stainless was formed in August 1994 to purchase an idled specialty steel facility in Bridgeville, PA and successfully completed an IPO in December 1994 (Nasdaq: USAP). Rick accepted the challenge of creating an accounting and manufacturing system from "a blank sheet of paper."

The basic fundamentals of those systems centered on understanding the process components of each operation, accumulating the costs of the operations within cost centers and reporting the actual performance of each process by manufacturing order. The accumulation of this information within the Company's databases provides management the opportunity to review the operating performance of each cost center as well as the financial performance of each facility. This level of detail also provides management the ability to identify opportunities for cost savings as well as understand the profitability of each product category, customer and order.

Rick's career at both Price Waterhouse and Universal Stainless provides a unique portfolio of hands-on experiences that include:

• developing effective financial and operational information systems that comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements;
• drafting financial statements and SEC filings;
• working with public accounting firms to efficiently complete financial statement audits and corporate tax returns;
• identifying opportunities for improvement by applying strong analytical skills to provide the basis to understand problems, work through possible solutions and confidently recommend and implement solutions.
• establishing banking relationships and securing loans to meet company objectives;
• leading due diligence and integration processes for acquisition opportunities; and
• executing a successful investor relations program.

Rick received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of Financial Executives International, the AICPA and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. A life-long resident of Pittsburgh, Rick and his wife Lori, have been married 27 years and they have 4 children.
