Cathy is a CPA with over 30 years of financial management experience. Throughout her career, she has served a broad range of organizations in diverse industries, giving her a deep understanding of how they work and succeed. Her leadership roles in finance have included responsibilities for human resources, technology, and risk management.

The first half of Cathy's career was in public accounting, which gave her the opportunity to work across a broad spectrum of businesses. Much of that work was as a consultant for small to medium-sized organizations, advising on matters of finance, tax, and systems. Since then, her role has been as CFO, affording her greater hands-on opportunities as part of strong executive management teams. She brings both approaches, managing and advising, to her work with business owners and CEO's in ways that serve them from a big-picture perspective.

Cathy has extensive experience in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing and wholesale distribution, real estate development and construction, hotels and restaurants, professional service firms, and nonprofit organizations. Much of her work has been focused on process improvement and the development of policies and procedures, with an emphasis on strong internal controls and efficiencies. She has designed management reporting systems, working closely with owners and managers to identify the information they need to successfully lead their organizations. Cathy has led many conversions of accounting systems, from needs identification, to software selection and full implementation.

Cathy's roles as CFO have given her significant experience in strategically leading the financial management of organizations. She has initiated and executed complex financial transactions, including loan negotiations, business acquisitions, and leasing agreements. Cathy can provide critical cash management services through cash flow projections and processes to monitor results. She has developed comprehensive budgets that involve participation across the organization and ongoing analysis against goals. She has also been responsible for the management of investments, including large endowment and pension funds.

Cathy has played key roles in organizational transformation, both cultural and operational. The most significant cultural transformation was triggered by the need to change a business model, and she was closely involved in the strategy and implementation of the change. Operationally, she has helped to lead organizations through significant restructurings and downsizing. Her experience includes real estate acquisitions and office relocations. She has led searches for, and leasing of, new headquarters, with responsibility for contract negotiations and construction build-out.

Experienced in human resource matters, Cathy has bargained union contracts and executed the administration of defined benefit plans. She has also implemented a broad range of retirement plans, including defined contribution and nonqualified executive plans. Cathy's management style is founded in a belief that people perform best when working in environments centered on efficient systems, positive customer service, and the responsibility to be creative problem solvers.

An event in 2002 was a defining moment in Cathy's career. Less than two weeks into a new role as CFO for a large nonprofit, she discovered an embezzlement that had been going on for over seven years, with more than $2 million stolen. Cathy played a critical role in fixing the systems and restoring trust from the community. She has gone on to speak at state and national conferences on strong internal controls and management oversight.

Cathy holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Ball State University, and a Master of Public Administration from Western Michigan University. She is a CPA licensed in the State of Michigan.

Cathy has earned an excellent reputation in the mid-Michigan area, and maintains beneficial relationships with bankers, attorneys, and other service providers. Her depth of experience, balanced with a strong commitment to customer service, makes her an outstanding professional committed to the success of her clients.
