Don has the strategic approach and broad business background to help you to turn your vision into a comprehensive business plan, as well as the operational know-how and energy to assist you in seeing the plan through to success. He has a successful track record of increasing cash flow through improvements in operations and working capital.
Identifying key performance indicators, measuring and reporting progress, and eliminating barriers by using root-cause analysis and continuous improvement processes are some of the strategies employed by Don to achieve business goals.
Don has 30 years of financial and general management experience in diverse industries. He has the proven ability to execute strategy, develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives, communicate and manage significant organizational change, and recruit, develop, and retain high performance teams.
In the last 15 years, Don has been the CFO for divisions of three Fortune 500 companies and a small start-up company, the Chief Operating Officer for a closely-held mid-size company, and a business consultant. Earlier in his career Don obtained his Certified Public Accountant designation while in public practice, and then worked as an Internal Auditor, Business Analyst, Group Controller, and VP Finance with a multinational Fortune company.
Don's broad business frame of reference includes in-depth industry experience in international manufacturing and distribution, healthcare and medical practices, real estate and land development, construction contracting, property management, engineering, public accounting, and consulting. He has provided leadership to companies ranging from start-ups and family businesses, to multi-location, multi-national operations with $600 million of sales.
Don's expertise includes value-added financial analysis, operational measurement and reporting, information systems, and business forecasting and planning. Don learns new situations quickly and excels at forecasting and managing activities that drive the company's cash flows and return on investment.
Establishing and managing relationships with lenders, investors, attorneys, and other key constituencies is an important aspect of Don's business dealings. From managing audits to negotiating leases and arranging financing for lines of credit, capital projects, real estate acquisitions and development, and arranging for long term financing of significant investments, Don is an invaluable resource. He has been responsible for the analysis, due diligence, execution, and integration of domestic and foreign acquisitions totaling more than $500 million, as well as several strategic business dispositions.
Don has travelled extensively on an international basis to manage finance and IT operations, and to open and shut down foreign facilities. Don can also provide management expertise in purchasing, human resources, information systems, sales, and project management.
Don earned his Finance and MBA degrees from Auburn University and attended post graduate executive education at Columbia University in Managing People and Change. He also holds an active CPA license in multiple states.
