Charleston, SC CFO

During a 20+ year career, Jim has been the CFO or Controller of both privately held and publically traded companies. His experience includes companies with revenues ranging from $5MM to $130MM  and in industries that include manufacturing, financial services and consulting firms. He started his career in public accounting, completing audits and corporate tax returns.

Most recently, as the VP of Finance of Administration for 11 years of a global manufacturer of electronic whiteboards and computer peripherals, he led the financial operations of the company as it grew from $13MM to $130MM. In addition to intrinsic growth and a change in product lines, the growth was also attributed to the completion of 2 acquisitions and the eventual sale of the company as the exit strategy for the majority owner. Jim also oversaw the international operations of the company, including the establishment of subsidiaries in Germany, Canada, Austria and France, a sales office in Hong Kong and distributions centers in the Netherlands and Singapore. In addition to leading the organization through the M&A process, he focused on maximizing cash flow, financial reporting, maintaining banking relationships, obtaining financing, audit preparation and budgeting and forecasting. Outside of the financial arena, his experiences with this company also included the oversight of the Human Resource and IT departments, including the implementation of the corporate ERP system.

Prior to that position, he was the Controller of a publically traded loud speaker manufacturer with revenues of $60MM. In this role, he focused on financial reporting, including 10-Q, 10-K and annual report preparation.

Prior to starting his career, he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned degrees in Accounting and Spanish for International Trade. After passing the CPA exam in Maryland, he obtained a Masters of Finance from John Hopkins University. He is a member of the Financial Executives Networking Group (FENG), South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Charleston Chamber of Commerce.

After being raised in Southern PA, he has lived in Baltimore, MD, Scottsdale, AZ, Charlotte, NC and is currently residing in Charleston, SC with his wife, Therese and 5 young children. He is wanting to share his knowledge and experiences with small to mid-size companies in those regions.
