Manus O'Donnell
Portland, OR CFO
|
Manus has over 30 years of progressive management experience in a broad array of businesses ranging from start-ups to major international companies. His skills include business development and planning, accounting and control, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow improvement, internal and external reporting, M&A, turnaround and crisis management, and banking and external relationships, as well as extensive experience in deal structuring and debt and equity financing.
He always brings a broad business perspective to any situation. Based on his years in public accounting, then as a CFO, and more recently as a crisis manager, he has maintained a focus on the essentials, often challenging the accepted ways of doing things and bringing an independent and fresh viewpoint. He has found these to be of immense value in operating environments and combined with his hands-on experience in the many areas of business operations, Manus is able to quickly bring essential, value-added, and experienced skills to a new challenge.
Manus has helped close numerous acquisitions and divestitures, from navigating through early term sheets, due diligence, final purchase/sale negotiations, to successful closings. He has built numerous business plans and forecasts and installed measurement systems which enabled management not only to plan the future direction but also to monitor progress and take quick and effective action where necessary.
He is expert in the different phases of a company's life cycle - early stage, rapid growth, maturity, and consolidation/decline - and the transitions each phase requires, as well as the severe management strains they bring. Moreover, he has deep experience of dealing with the outside business community - bankers, lawyers, CPA firms, other outside professionals, as well as vendors and community representatives.
Manus has been engaged in a number of rapid-change situations, including growing a business from $2 million to $600 million over four years, the successful turnaround of a $3 billion marketing services company and restructuring of an $80 million casino cruise ship operation. Some companies required extensive financial restructuring - debt, equity, and other stakeholders' positions had to be rearranged and, on occasion, fresh capital had to be raised. On the operations side, his projects have included centralizing facilities, reorganizing operations, selling subsidiaries, and strengthening the core businesses. Client satisfaction was clear - assignments often included follow-on projects at the clients' request.
Manus came to the US from Ireland to get his MBA from Columbia University Business School. He was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1986 (currently inactive) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. He has recently moved to Portland, OR, from Berkeley Heights, NJ.
