Dave draws from his deep and diverse experience across a variety of industries to provide hands-on full-scope strategic planning, financial modeling and creation of best practices, systems, tools and infrastructure to "get it right the first time." One of key gifts lies in his ability to quickly identify “gaps” between current key processes vs. best practices, and then work with process owners to design superior key business processes that must be in place and measured starting with revenue stream creation/growth and value-delivery systems.
Dave's primary focus since 2012 has been to use the above approach to guide profitable growth as CFO, for Percona, a leading provider of full-scope software services in open-source arena. During that period of extremely high growth, he provided key support to the owner and executive team to implement Strategic Planning, Budgeting, Forecasting, and performance metric systems to fully support the firm's ability to continually plan, execute, measure, and adjust course as needed. This required creation/improvement of key infrastructure and business processes, along with key tools such as modeling for cash flow and P&L, all tied to Strategic Plan.
Dave has served in as fractional CFO for numerous start-up and small businesses since 2010, and also served 2008-10 as CFO for Tompkins International (leading consulting firm) and other companies in the RTP area both in services and manufacturing. His roots are grounded as CPA in public accounting with Ernst & Young, LLP.
Dave's background has strong operational roots, based on firm believe that Operations and Finance must be totally in-sync to achieve planned success. As Owner/CFO/COO and GM of Harmony Timberworks 2002-08, he directed turnaround of high-tech CAD/CAM design/build firm, successful Investor search for capital to fund growth, expansion while making business profitable. This required a very "hands-on" approach to form and direct team to re-invent and retool every aspect of the business starting with Strategic Planning, Marketing and Sales, Technology and IT systems, along with Business Process Improvement from engineering to manufacturing to customer satisfaction.
Dave's key strengths and skills to help owners build successful organizations include a deep understanding of the fundamentals of good planning and balancing cost control with dynamics of growth, along with solid financial modeling and forecasting skills to drive cash flow and profitability.
A native North Carolinian, David has lived in the Raleigh, NC area since graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, and enjoys being a husband and father of two wonderful children, both of whom share his deep passion for music as a guitarist, song-writer, teacher and leader in praise/worship music, all aimed at simply making a difference in people's lives.
