Most recently, Michael worked for the last few years as the CFO/CEO of the 11th largest wireless internet provider in the US and one of the largest in the Mid-West. He was retained by the board of directors to execute a complete restructuring/turnaround strategy. This involved managing the entire Chapter 11 and sale process for the court. Michael was able to take the company from losing over $3 million/year to be on track to make over $2 million during his tenure and was able to successfully sell the company. He raised several million in capital, consolidated debt, implemented software and process efficiencies, reduced staffing levels, and led the company out of major losses and insolvency. Michael is very team focused and effectively reduced turnover and retained all key positions throughout the process.
Prior to his telecommunications position, Michael decided to apply his extensive background in all aspects of business to a variety of clients in the consulting space where he worked for Robert Half and other firms over a period of 8 years. He focused on helping clients with everything from taking over financial functions on an interim basis to major projects such as software implementation. He completed successful projects in the medical field, wine industry, software, and construction/real estate. Michael developed a proven track record in rapid analysis and delivering results.
Michael spent the prior 5 years before entering the consulting field as the as CFO initially and then CEO of an IT services provider and white box builder where he focused on rolling out higher margin service offerings resulting in gross margin's increasing by 50%. He implemented BI tools, Metrics, and processes/procedures to optimize operations and profitability.
Prior to joining the IT services company, he served as CFO of the $150 million US division of a global food farming/processing company where he implemented systems to sustain rapid growth, worked with investors including private equity, and participated in a successful IPO of a rapidly growing division. His experience in BI Tools and enterprise systems was crucial in building the proper KPIs/Metrics to drive profitable expansion. Michael's success in that division propelled him into the CEO position of another division that was in serious financial distress where he performed a successful turnaround strategy, divested the division, and the company is still thriving to date.
After completing his MBA, Michael became CFO of a large construction contractor that was experiencing significant challenges where he was tasked with raising money, consolidating debt, and implementing more effective systems to track job performance all resulting in optimizing the overall performance while helping the company survive major challenges resulting in this company surviving and thriving to this day.
Michael is originally from Portland, OR and has spent most of his career in the Northwest and Mid-West, while earning degrees from highly rated Northwest Schools of Linfield College with an undergraduate in business/accounting, and an MBA in finance from Pacific Lutheran University. He started out in high school with a high tech start-up where he managed all the financial functions for over 6 years and finished Cum Laude with his undergraduate degree.
