Mesa, AZ CFO
37 Years of Experience
Ashford has worked with business owners and corporate leaders in a wide range of industries in for profit companies, non- profit organizations and Big 4 accounting firms. With over 30 years of experience as a CFO, he has contributed to the success of startups, early stage and medium sized companies and national and international operations with his passion for excellence. This broad based experience allows Ashford to quickly and effectively partner with businesses to assess and implement solutions to increase short and long term profitability and cash flow as well as to achieve sustainable enterprise value.
Ashford has extensive experience in working with banks, financing institutions and investors, raising capital for technology and energy companies. He was the CFO of the core team that guided a cyber security and ecommerce technology company from the startup phase. While he was there, the team initiated and completed a SEC Regulation 506 D Series A private placement capital raise.
For nine years, he worked with an organization whose membership is comprised exclusively of 9,000 corporate CEO's. This experience gave him significant insight into the depth and breadth of problems and challenges faced by CEO's and owners.
Ashford has improved profitability and reduced expenses for an array of businesses by using product line analysis, cash flow projections, financial forecasting and budgeting.
An abundance of experience allows Ashford to work effectively with companies experiencing explosive growth and well established companies seeking to increase profitability. For one family owned business, he helped to establish financial and administrative controls which provided the infrastructure for growth from 7 employees and $1.5M in revenue to 62 employees and $20M in just 3 years despite the capital intensive nature of industry segments (energy, real estate and manufacturing) and a downturn in economic climate.
Ashford has also helped companies successfully navigate through sudden and severe downturns. He created an effective phased budget reduction plan that allowed one association to decrease in size by 20% with minimal disruption to operations. As a part of this, he designed and implemented an effective revenue tracking and expense forecasting system that allowed that organization to exceed budget goals in a severe economic downturn.
The financial operating systems processes and procedures are also critical to a business's financial health. Ashford can quickly assess weaknesses and needed improvements, helping one company save over $400K by replacing an overly complex accounting software system with a more effective, less expensive package. It also dramatically improved the timeliness and quality of financial information received by management.
He has extensive knowledge in working with Boards of Directors, once reporting for nine years to a Board comprised of 54 corporate CEO's.
In the Big 4 accounting firms, Ashford garnering both audit and tax experience with Fortune 500 companies in energy, technology and manufacturing. This allowed him to gain extensive knowledge about world class infrastructure, resource allocation, internal controls and management reporting systems.
He graduated from Texas Tech University with a BBA in Accounting and earned an MBA from Southern Methodist University. Ashford is an avid reader and focuses on history, technology, science and spirituality. He loves to hike, exercise and travel, having visited 35 countries on six continents. He hopes to take a trip to Antarctica someday so as to add that elusive seventh continent to his travel portfolio.
