Madison, WI CFO
29 Years of Experience
As a former Naval officer with a long family history of military service, Mike believes deeply in the ideals of integrity, mission above self, and building leaders around him. Throughout his nearly 30 years of experience in increasingly senior financial and operational roles, he has used these core principles to serve his employers, clients, and communities. Having served as the senior financial officer for more than 5 different organizations over his career, he is intimately familiar with building high-performing accounting and finance functions that support a company's strategy and growth objectives. And Mike has an infectious passion for using data and analytics to help clients get the most out of their scarce resources and growing organizations.
In the early part of his career, sandwiched between educations in economics, finance, and strategy from elite academic institutions, Mike was a submarine officer in the United States Navy. As the senior financial officer as well as a critical operational leader, he quickly learned the importance of thoroughly understanding an organization's business and strategy to ensure his team can support successful execution of the mission.
As a financial strategist and consultant for a premier global consulting firm, Mike helped his firm and his clients maximize their value through in-depth financial analysis, execution of complex transactions (like mergers/acquisitions/joint ventures/equity investments), and reengineering business processes. Working with nearly a hundred clients across multiple industries (including financial services, information technology, health care, manufacturing, and retail) gave Mike a broad set of experiences that he brings to bear for a client to improve cash flow and to increase company value.
As a senior financial executive (including as Chief Financial Officer and as Chief Operating Officer) for organizations ranging from start-ups to small/midsize companies to multi-billion-dollar financial services organizations, he has encountered, and solved, most every kind of accounting, financial, technology, and people problem a business owner will see. And he has helped organizations navigate through extraordinary change, both internal and external, through inspirational, yet approachable leadership.
His greatest successes have come from aligning strategy, financial planning and budgeting, and operational measurement -- thereby aligning a company's people, processes, and technology around achieving its most critical objectives. And his greatest work pleasures come from helping others achieve their personal and professional goals, whatever those may be.
His greatest personal pleasures come from the menagerie of family (kids, grandkids, dogs, cats, siblings, parents) and close friends around the world who surround him with laughter and conversation. Mike tries to live life to the fullest and can be found hiking the heights of Colorado, biking along the lakes of Wisconsin, exploring new cities and countries, or relaxing by (or below the surface of) the ocean.
