As a senior financial professional for over thirty years, Morris has a broad range of industry experience ranging from a variety of small entrepreneurial start-ups to Fortune 500 companies and non-profits that allow him to bring cutting edge CFO skills set to address the challenges of small business owners.
Morris earned his Bachelors degree in Finance from San Jose State University and began his career in public accounting with Zeiss, Thomas, Pfahnl & Scruggs, a local CPA with many small businesses and sole proprietors as clients. While there he passed the CPA exam and became a member of the California Society of CPAs. Following his time in public accounting, Morris applied his knowledge and diligence working for Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurial ventures and non-profits in a broad array of industries as their senior financial officer. To broaden his financial and managerial acumen, Morris also attended the Stanford GSB Executive Program and UC Berkeley Haas Bio Entrepreneurial Program.
Focusing on his desire to help the small business owner, Morris provides CFO services on a cost effective, as-needed basis. He has developed expertise in cash flow management, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, strategic planning, turnarounds/restructuring, risk mitigation, contract negotiations, and ERP systems and control process implementations. Morris has strong analytical and creative problem solving ability and understands the complex financial nuances and pitfalls that can lead to failure for a small company on the rise. He is continuous improvement thinker that constantly innovates with state of the art solutions that allow for efficient and accurate accounting and informed financial decisions
An effective communicator, Morris recognizes that ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's accounting system and financial reporting is of paramount importance. He establishes a financial structure focused on Key Performance Indicators and Value Drivers, accompanied by the requisite controls, policies and procedures. He specializes in financial, operational and technology reviews that drive improved performance, increased efficiencies and greater profitability. This provides the company and it's management with the highest level of information and leads to well-informed business decisions that take the pressure off of the owner by giving confidence in the accuracy of the financial statements of the past and ensuring proper strategic planning for the optimal future success of the company.
A key player in eight (8) multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions, Morris works diligently to establish relationships with the company's business partners, bankers, customers, suppliers and employees to develop the trust that will take the company to the next level or to a successful exit strategy. Morris lives in the San Jose, CA area. He has one son, who is an RN, living in Oakland, CA and a second son, who is an attorney, living in Chicago, IL. Morris serves a deacon in his church, is on the board of a homeless shelter and enjoys golfing, live music performances of most kinds, cooking, wine tasting, and traveling worldwide.
