Patrick (Pat) has a wealth of experience in the finances and operations of privately owned Companies (and nonprofit Organizations) with annual revenues of between $2 million and $500 million.  His experiences include:

  • 10+ years as an owner and employee in a family owned business.
  • 12+ years in public accounting at a Big 4 accounting firm
  • 23+ years as a CFO and/or COO in privately held companies and/or non profit organizations.

Patrick has worked with entrepreneurs, private equity firms and participated in identifying targets for acquisitions and developing the structure for those acquisitions.  He has extensive experience working with and developing cost effective partnerships with bankers, attorneys, CPA's, insurance agents and other advisers.  

He has a passion for working with founders and their families and working through transition and communication issues to reach a shared goal.  Pat has helped owners and their families successfully meet and overcome challenges related to rapid growth, financial instability, economic downturns, generational transfer of ownership or management (from parent to child) and ownership transition (including through the use of an ESOP).

Industries in which he has significant experience include:  Construction, Transportation, Consumer Goods, Wholesale Distribution, Food Production, Manufacturing, Consumer Goods, Agribusiness, Financial Services, Insurance and Nonprofits.

Patrick is also skilled at developing financial plans that lead to increased profitability through the use of clear strategies and measurable objectives. With prior experience as an insurance agent, he also identifies risk areas and the potential for saving money in health and property insurance.  In recent years, Pat has overseen multiple implementations of new IT systems or software in the area of sales, customer relationship management, finance and accounting, operations, payroll and human resources.

He is able to employ a variety of tools and strategies including:

  • Cash Management and Cash Flow Forecasting
  • Strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Financial and management reporting and analysis
  • Exit strategy planning (extensive experience with leveraged buy-outs, private equity and the use of an ESOP for ownership transition)
  • Improving profitability through revenue growth and expense control
  • Designing compensation and incentives to align employees with strategic objectives
  • Accounting and financial staff development and change management
  • Managing relationships with banks, CPA's, insurance providers, and attorneys
  • Managing and improving treasury, banking, and the debt management functions.
  • Improving business processes and the structuring of an organization
  • Developing of accounting policies, processes, and controls
  • Implementing accounting and/or operational systems
  • Managing risk and reducing insurance costs including through more optimal plan design
  • Litigation support

Patrick is a hands-on leader and enjoys solving his client's problems. He works well with employees at all levels within an organization and fosters loyalty and top performance from staff members. He is respected for his superb business skills, insight, objectivity, honesty and integrity.

Pat and his wife Michelle have four children and four grandchildren and live in Apple Valley, MN where they are both active in their local community.
