Scott has 29 years of experience as an accountant and manager working and consulting with small to mid-sized companies with revenues ranging from $10 to $200 Million. These companies included a regional bank, veterinarian hospital, custom home builder, government contractor, real estate developer, specialty contractor and large national general contractor. His depth of hands-on industry knowledge and his background serving as a controller and CFO for various businesses enables him to bring a new perspective on strategic planning, accounting, finance, risk management, project management, human resources and computer systems related matters.
Scott knows that cash is the life blood of every company and he works with companies to strengthen their cash position. Strong positive cash flow is usually preceded by accurate and timely financial statements, coupled with detailed financial analysis to highlight strengths and weaknesses. Once these strengths and weaknesses are uncovered, he works with CEOs, the accounting staff and company managers to institute industry “best practices”. These best practices will help correct the weaknesses and enhance the strengths. He will work with you and your staff to develop and document the proper processes that fit your organization and will help you achieve a “best practices” organization where working capital and profits are maximized.
As a former business owner, Scott combines entrepreneurial instincts with knowledgeable financial analysis. He knows how to listen and understand CEO challenges and then develops the best solutions to meet those challenges. He recognizes operational deficiencies and works with all staff to improve the business practices reducing expenses and improving cash flow. As a trainer and mentor, he is able to communicate financial concepts to non-financial individuals thereby raising the knowledge level of all employees. He is experienced in working with banks, bonding companies, insurance companies, accountants, attorneys and regulators where he routinely negotiates solutions.
As a Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS), Scott is experienced identifying and developing strategies to manage risk with the goal of protecting the assets and financial viability of the organization. In application, Scott was able to save one company over $700,000 in annual premiums while increasing coverage.
Additionally, Scott has extensive experience in IT issues including selection and implementation of accounting systems and has managed the implementation of new accounting software for over 20 companies.
Scott graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S.B.A. where his areas of studies were finance and accounting. He is licensed as a CPA in the state of Maryland and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Maryland Association of CPAs. He holds the Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) certification from the International Risk Management Institute, Inc. and is active in the national and local chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association.
