{"id":7965,"date":"2018-05-06T20:49:59","date_gmt":"2018-05-06T20:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.chicagolandb2bcfo.com\/?p=7965"},"modified":"2023-01-05T18:25:58","modified_gmt":"2023-01-05T18:25:58","slug":"games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.b2bcfo.com\/phil-elworth\/games\/","title":{"rendered":"Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Driving your business towards success requires leadership and not just your own.\u00a0 The leadership in your organization needs to grow and change in order for your company or organization to grow.\u00a0 How about you, has your leadership ability grown or changed over the past couple years?\u00a0 Or are you leading your company the way you always have?\u00a0 By making all the decisions?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Mark Miller in his book Chess Not Checkers describes this in a very interesting way.\u00a0 He says in checkers; all the pieces are interchangeable.\u00a0 They all move the same direction.\u00a0 This is a good way of describing a business in its early stage of growth.\u00a0 At that time, you as the owner can make all the decisions telling everyone just what they need to do (checkers).\u00a0 This form of leadership will work for a while, but as you grow it will stop working and actually interfere with growth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">As mentioned in the first paragraph if you wish to grow as an organization your leadership will also have to grow, both yours and your team.\u00a0 According to Miller there are 4 ingredients necessary for growth to occur:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">1.\u00a0 As an organization you need to bet on leadership.\u00a0 Growing leaders grow organizations.\u00a0 Your capacity to grow is determined by your leadership capacity.\u00a0 You do this by:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Identify emerging leaders then invest in their leadership.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Create a feedback plan for these leaders<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Create stretch assignments for these leaders<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Close their skill gap (train them on the skills they need to be successful)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Use a coach to help the improvement process<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">2.\u00a0 Act as one in the organization-Everyone in the organization should be rowing the same direction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Set clear direction by answering the questions, why do we exist as an organization; what does success look like?\u00a0 What values shape what we do and how we do it?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Get full buy in from your leadership team.\u00a0 If they are not all on board maybe you need to consider some change in the makeup of the team.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Over communicate the message and direction of the company to everyone in the company.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">3.<\/span><span style=\"font: 7pt 'Times New Roman'; margin: 0px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Win the hearts of your employees.
