{"id":6021,"date":"2021-05-25T17:40:46","date_gmt":"2021-05-25T17:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.b2bcfo.com\/rick-perrin\/?p=6021"},"modified":"2021-09-22T20:53:54","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T20:53:54","slug":"the-happy-sad-syndrome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.b2bcfo.com\/rick-perrin\/the-happy-sad-syndrome\/","title":{"rendered":"The Happy-Sad Syndrome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the business owners I meet go through this process every month:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Around the 15th of the month their bookkeeper or controller hands them the prior month\u2019s\u00a0income statement and balance sheet. Each are 2-3 pages long.<\/li>\n<li>They look at the \u201ctop line\u201d of the income statement (sales) and are happy or sad.<\/li>\n<li>They flip to the\u00a0last page of the income statement to the \u201cbottom line\u201d, net income and are happy or sad.<\/li>\n<li>They quickly glance at the rest of the income statement and the balance sheet, looking at just a couple of accounts they are very familiar with, like the cash and accounts receivable balances. There are often 75 or more lines on the income statement and balance sheet that don&#8217;t seem to tell the owners much, other than the spending levels and balances. They skip over them.<\/li>\n<li>They then stick the financials into their drawer until the next month when they will again be &#8220;happy or sad&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Owners are often frustrated because they believe they are doing everything they can to improve their business, but it still not performing as well as they think it could be.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Financial statements and reports\u00a0should\u00a0provide business leaders the information needed\u00a0to help them drive increased sales and profitability.\u00a0 They <u>should be excited to receive their comprehensive monthly financial package<\/u> with dashboard, margin analyses, KPI\u2019s, summary P&amp;L&#8217;s and balance sheet, expense analyses and cash flow statement that detail out exactly what happened in the month and where they should focus energies to improve performance.\u00a0 <u>The last place the reports\u00a0belong is in the drawer.<\/u>\u00a0 If you or any other CEO\/Owner you know has the &#8220;<strong>Happy<\/strong><strong>-Sad Syndrome<\/strong>&#8220;, I&#8217;d be happy to provide them some <strong>free medicine<\/strong> &#8211; by showing them a few quick ideas\u00a0to <strong><em>increase the value of their business and improve their financial management<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; in a short, complimentary meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Current year profitability can still be improved.
